The Voices at the Real concert series will be hosting the French soprano, Véronique Gens, in concert on 25 November, accompanied on stage by the Ensemble Les Surprises, conducted by Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas.
Véronique Gens is a French soprano who is highly acclaimed in the Baroque and classical repertoire. She studied at the Paris Conservatory, making her debut in 1986 under the baton of William Christie in the Les Arts Florissants ensemble.
Throughout her career, she has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious theatres and festivals, including the Paris National Opera, the Royal Opera House and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. Although she initially stood out for her historicist performance, her repertoire has gradually extended towards Mozart, French romantic opera and the melodie recital. Her ability to combine dramatic depth and vocal purity has enabled her to take on complex characters with great expressive sensitivity, consolidating a career marked by versatility and musical rigour.
She has also developed a significant recording career that has been praised by specialised critics. Her recordings devoted to 18th and 19th century French music have contributed decisively to recovering works that have not been performed much and revitalising interest in this repertoire.
