From 12 June to 13 September, Fundación Casa de México in Spain is hosting a group exhibition bringing together the work of seven Mexican photographers of recognised standing, such as Humberto Ríos. The show is part of the PHotoESPAÑA 2026 photography festival.
The exhibition explores how, beyond its descriptive function, photography can become a space for imagining, suggesting and questioning the visible. Through technical and optical manipulations, the works create ambiguous images that invite the viewer to pause, observe closely and allow themselves to be drawn in by what seems to elude the immediate gaze.
The works, eccentric in form and meticulous in their execution, create a space where meaning lies not solely in what is photographed, but in the emotional and imaginative resonances they evoke in the viewer. The curatorial approach creates a space for critical contemplation and shared sensory experience, where the enigma of the gaze takes centre stage.
This exhibition offers the opportunity to discover the works of Humberto Ríos, a Mexican photographer whose work is characterised by a poetic exploration of time, memory and perception. In his work Suspending Time (2016), Ríos explores the possibility of freezing or expanding the photographic moment, creating images that seem to hover between the real and the imagined.
His approach combines a keen aesthetic sensibility with a deep interest in the invisible layers that make up the visual experience. In this piece, the suspension of time is not merely a technical device, but an invitation to reconsider the relationship between the gaze and that which lies beyond the obvious.
