The Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) Campus in the Cantoblanco University City will host a new edition of the ReggaeMad Festival on 5 and 6 June, featuring all genres of reggae. This two-day event features performances by groups and artists, such as Iration Stepas, Turbulence, Mo’Kalamity & The Wizards, Emeterians & Forward Ever Band, Les Testarudes and Vixen Sound, among others.
Reggae, dancehall, spiritual Roots Reggae, soulful reggae, ska, rocksteady, dub in the festival line-up offers a chance to enjoy all genres of reggae performed by both national and international artists.
This latest edition features some of the leading names in the various genres of the reggae movement, such as Iration Steppas, one of the most influential artists on the sound system scene, who is back in Madrid following an absence of more than 20 years.
The influential Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist, Turbulence, also stands out, who is known for his distinctive voice and his socially and spiritually conscious lyrics, aligned with the Rastafari movement. Mo'Kalamity & The Wizards will appear on stage led by Mo'Kalamity, one of Europe’s most important female voices in spiritual and socially conscious Roots Reggae.
The Emeterians & Forward Ever Band will present the exclusive debut of its latest album at ReggaeMad Fest, which has been eagerly awaited for five years. This vocal trio, which got together in Madrid in 2004, is recognised as the leading exponent of reggae vocal harmonies in Spain and one of the most respected projects in Europe.
The extensive line-up will be rounded off with Les Testarudes, the girl band from Barcelona; the Roots Rockers Sound System; the leading Scottish DJ, MC, and sound system operator, Vixen Sound; Sista Joy, one of the young veteran female DJs in Spain; and the Skank-Fu Hi-Fi Sound System from Vigo.
The festival is rounded off with a great atmosphere and activities that go beyond the purely musical. There will be a food truck area, where flavours from around the world can be tasted; a market featuring records, fashion, books and crafts, among other items, from independent creators related to this culture; and artistic performances.
