Nave 0 at Matadero Madrid will host an exhibition by Greta Alfaro from 4 June to 31 July, which is included in the Official Section of the PHotoESPAÑA 2026 photography festival. The artist presents Offertory, a reflection on the transformation of matter and sacrifice in contemporary society.
The proposal reflects on the shift in the ways of sacrifice, offering or transformation of matter from the ritual and ceremonial sphere to today’s circuits of production, consumption and images. In this context, Nave 0 becomes a place of transit that recovers the logic of the temple in order to question its relevance in the present.
In this environment, seeing and consuming are presented as central gestures of contemporary life, in which images take on a position of authority and desire reorganises the way matter is presented and transformed.
The work of Greta Alfaro (Pamplona, 1977) articulates this tension without literally illustrating it, placing the body as matter offered and architecture as a symbolic frame that conditions the gaze. The spectator becomes involved in a system of relations that does not reconstruct a lost liturgy, but observes how we continue to offer, display and transform matter today.
