Considered to be one of the most influential productions of the past decade, it can be seen at the Teatro Rialto from 23 October to 29 November 2026, from Tuesday to Sunday, and is directed by David Serrano. This award-winning, contemporary and inter-generational musical tells the story of Evan Hansen, a 17-year-old boy suffering from social anxiety disorder who is trying to find his place in the world. Recommended by his therapist, he starts writing letters to himself with positive messages, but a misunderstanding with a classmate, Connor Murphy, triggers an unexpected situation that forces him to choose between telling the truth or maintaining a lie that brings him closer to the life he yearns. Throughout the show, the main character faces issues, such as identity, connection and acceptance in an environment marked by isolation.
The staging incorporates an innovative approach that reflects the impact of social media on the characters’ lives, without detracting from the acting and emotional burden that characterises this musical.
The libretto is by Steven Levens, winner of a Tony Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award, while the music and lyrics are the responsibility of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, winners of Oscars, Golden Globes, Tony and Drama Desk Awards. The show includes the adaptation by David Serrano and Alejandro Serrano, with Joan Miquel Pérez as the Musical Director and David Serrano as the Director.
