The flamenco dancer, Israel Galván extends his creative universe to a younger audience with a show aimed at infants between the ages of 6 and 18 months. The show combines dance with sensory exploration, turning the stage into a children’s sound park that invites babies to participate actively. This show can be seen on 13 June at the Centro Danza Matadero - CDM.
Different types of footwear: wellington boots, football boots, flippers, or Japanese shoes are placed on seven chairs. They are discovered by the infants, who hold them and use them to create sounds, along with Galván. The piece is rounded off with everyday objects, such as sand, rakes, headbands and ears, promoting sensory connection and interaction with the stage space.
At the end, the babies can go up on stage, try on the shoes and play freely, while parents also immerse themselves in the experience. Through this, Galván wants children and adults alike to experience dance as a joint game, in which creativity and surprise are behind each movement.
Born in Seville in 1973, Israel Galván is one of the most innovative and recognised artists of contemporary flamenco. Raised in the heart of a family of flamenco dancers, whereby his father, José Galván, was also a renowned teacher and dancer, Israel immersed himself in the world of flamenco from a very young age.
Throughout his career, Galván has stood out for pushing the boundaries of classic flamenco, incorporating elements of improvisation, modern dance, performance and theatre through a highly personal and experimental approach.
He has performed at festivals and theatres worldwide and has won numerous awards, including several National Flamenco Awards, establishing himself as a leading figure in contemporary flamenco. His best-known productions include La Fiesta, Seises, Lo Real or Torero.
