The choreographer, Lorena Nogal, will be performing a modern dance show on 26 and 27 June at the Centro Danza Matadero, which delves into identity and memory through the body.
The piece uses the body as the main artistic vehicle to explore the layers that make up each individual, as well as inherited memory and fragility, which is understood as a form of knowledge. The artist uses vulnerability as a powerful creative force, building a poetic that transforms fragility into revelation. The result is a show that offers the audience a place of healing, where the body rises up as the final human territory: a space of truth, presence and resistance.
Born in Barcelona in 1984, Lorena Nogal is one of the leading figures in contemporary dance in Spain. Having studied at the Theatre Institute in Barcelona, she completed her initial training with the IT Dansa Company, working with leading international choreographers, such as Ohad Naharin, Jirí Kylián, Stijn Celis and Nacho Duato.
For over 15 years, she has worked closely with La Veronal, led by Marcos Morau, as both a performer and a choreographic assistant on the company’s own productions and external commissions for leading institutions, such as the Royal Danish Ballet, the Beijing Dance Theatre or the National Dance Company.
In 2018, she founded the HOTEL Col·lectiu Escènic project, a space for interdisciplinary collaboration with other artists, and has presented her own pieces, such as El elogio de la fisura and Alegorías, el límite y sus mapas. In 2016, she won Best Female Performer at the Catalan Critics’ Awards and she won the National Dance Award in the performance category in 2024.
