Iconography of Evil. The Seven Deadly Sins in Tapestry

From 25 June to 28 September, the Royal Collections Gallery is hosting an exhibition that brings together the two series of 16th-century tapestries preserved by National Heritage on the theme of the deadly sins: wrath, gluttony, pride, lust, sloth, envy and greed, for the first time ever.

The tapestries on display in the exhibition were woven in the Netherlands and belonged to Queen Mary of Hungary and Philip II. These two pieces are now on display to the general public for the first time ever thanks to this exhibition.

Two years after its opening, the Royal Collections Gallery has become a landmark and a key reference among national and international museums.  The royal collections that can be seen in the Gallery enable visitors to witness the evolution of the periods of history, the history of art and the transformation of tastes and customs, whilst highlighting the patronage and promotion of the arts by different Spanish monarchs throughout history.

To celebrate its second anniversary, the Gallery has organised an extensive programme of activities that will take place from 10 June to 6 July. The general public will be able to attend conferences, special guided tours, contemporary art, films, dance and music, in order to create new perspectives on cultural heritage, extend the resonance of the importance of this museum, increase its dissemination and boost the cultural offer.
