The Canal Foundation will host an exhibition in the Mateo Inurria Hall from 12 February to 4 May which brings together a total of 134 pieces created by the American artist, Andy Warhol, from 1962 until the end of his career. Warhol's posters are presented as a tangible display of his genius, delving into his legacy and demonstrating how art and advertising were merged in his work.
This exhibition is presented as one of the largest compilations to date of the famous posters by the iconic pop art artist, and it is organised into six themed sections: early posters, wallpapers, adaptations and graphic series, late posters, portraits, and records and publications. The first five sections focus on the different types of posters he worked on, while the last section displays his creations for records and publications.
134 pieces will be on display, covering some of Andy Warhol's most iconic and representative images. They include his first folded posters for mailers sent by the gallery owner Leo Castelli, the advertising posters for Chanel No. 5, the portraits of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe or cover designs for legendary musical groups, such as The Rolling Stones or The Velvet Underground.
The American visual artist, Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh, United States, 1928-1987, New York, United States) is considered to be one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. His work covered diverse media, from painting to film, as he developed a personal and unique style. It was his experience as a publicist and graphic designer that enabled the artist to integrate posters as a relevant and permanent expression in his artistic career.
With the collaboration of Hamburg Museum of Art and Industry , this exhibition of his work is now coming to Madrid as one of the largest compilations of his famous posters to date, delving into the legacy of this pop art genius.
