As part of the Voces del Real concert series, the Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian will be performing a recital on 30 September at the Teatro Real that includes the performance of pieces by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Born in Vilna (Lithuania) in 1981, Asmik Grigorian is a Lithuanian soprano renowned internationally for her powerful voice and intense performance. Daughter of the Armenian tenor Gegham Grigoryan and the Lithuanian soprano Irena Milkevičiūtė, she began her musical training at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, from which she graduated in 2006.
She made her debut in Kristiansand (Norway) in 2004 as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni directed by Jonathan Miller. A year later, she made her debut in her native country in the role of Violetta in La Traviata, also directed by Jonathan Miller, and in 2006, she became one of the founders of the Vilnius City Opera.
Her career soon took off, taking her to the most prestigious stages worldwide. Grigorian stands out for her versatility, performing roles ranging from the most bel canto to the most dramatic. Her performance of roles like Salomé, Tatyana and Jenufa have been particularly acclaimed by the critics and in 2016, she won the International Opera Awards in London (United Kingdom) as the Best Young Female Singer. She also won the Lithuanian National Culture and Arts Prize in 2019, the Franco Abbiati Award 2020 and the Opera XXI Award for the opera singer of the year in 2022.
