After closing in 2020, the venue founded by Miguel Aguilera Fernández (known as Miguel Candela) in 1982 (which has borne witness to some of the most memorable flamenco performances in Madrid featuring artists such as Enrique Morente, Camarón de la Isla, Paco de Lucia, Sabicas, Chocolate, El Güito, Maria Maya, Pepe Habichuela, Tomatito, Antonio Canales and Juan Ramirez, among many others) is reopening as a bar-restaurant, with live flamenco shows and DJ sessions in the evening.
Determined to respect the original essence and spirit of the place, the current group of partners that run the business (including actor Unax Ugalde, winner of MasterChef, Angela Gimeno, film producer, Enrique Lavigne, artist Amanda Portillo, painter Piro Sánchez-Ocaña and entrepreneurs Alfonso Pozuelo, Edu Por las Noches and Neus Cerdá) embarked on a refurbishment project lasting five long months.
The new Candela will be a tribute to tradition and authenticity. The menu devised by Ángela Gimeno offers classic dishes, while flamenco will continue to be the star attraction in terms of music and entertainment. Several days a week, established and emerging artists will give acoustic performances. In the evening, the venue will become a nightclub with DJ sessions that will connect flamenco with contemporary musical genres.
