Located in the heart of Madrid, in La Latina, this popular café, founded in the late 19th century, has undergone several changes in ownership. Now, with its original name once again and managed by sommelier Xavier Saludes Prada and María Alexandra, it takes us back in time to the atmosphere of the cafes portrayed in the novels of Benito Pérez Galdós with a strong French bistro look and feel.
El Nuncio serves breakfasts (including freshly baked pastries), lunches and dinners, as well as drinks. The menu is based on the concept of simple dishes, well made, using quality ingredients and recognisable recipes, seeking a balance between informality and elevated cuisine. In addition to a variety of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, they also offer a daily brunch, traditional afternoon treats with chocolate and churros, a wide variety of coffees, an extensive selection of beers, good wines, vermouth, spirits and cocktails.
The interior decor has a strong 19th-century aesthetic, with classic Thonet chairs, wooden tables, an upright piano, terrazzo flooring and orange Hermes ceiling lamps.
As well as the main restaurant itself, there is a terrace located on what is possibly the most photographed staircase in Madrid, with views of the Church of San Pedro el Viejo.
