From 16 to 19 October, the Spanish National Ballet will perform a show with a triple programme that pays tribute to the choreographer José Granero (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1936 - Madrid, 2006), a major figure in Spanish dance.
The performance is made up of three choreographic pieces. First of all, Leyenda, a piece that revolves around two lovers whose relationship is marked by an intense desire and mutual attraction. However, there are constant obstacles to their relationship, turning their passion into a cycle of reconciliations and rejections which lead to aggression, despair and loneliness.
Then it is the turn of Bolero, inspired by the musical piece by Ravel, in which Spanish classical ballet is merged with the essence of flamenco dance, creating a unique interpretation of the famous composition. It also has a strong visual component, using mirrors, shadows and moving shapes, all of which is performed on a stage with an art nouveau aesthetic.
The event draws to a close with Medea, based on Seneca’s myth. This choreographic production combines music by Manolo Sanlúcar and the texts by Miguel Narros, two great authors of Spanish stage art, to explore Medea’s rage, pain and revenge, with a dance that culminates in a violent catharsis.
