A New World

The Liria Palace will present an exhibition by the Mexican artist, Denise de la Rue in its Contemporary Art temporary exhibition gallery. It is an artistic experience that seeks to reflect on humanity's constant search to discover the unknown and transcend established limits, which can be seen from 24 February to 23 July.

The exhibition, which opens this Contemporary Art gallery, includes the only letters signed by Christopher Columbus in private hands, which are the subject of this exhibition. The journey takes visitors from the Admiral's voyage to today’s conquest of space, through some moments in the history of exploration and discovery of new worlds, from the Christopher Columbus’ voyage in 1492, which changed the course of history by revealing a new continent, to the iconic Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.

The multi-faceted artist has created more than 20 sculptures inspired by artefacts and objects that have been present on NASA missions and a series of meteorite recreations. Denise De la Rue establishes a dialogue about these works and superimposes extracts from the aforementioned letters by Columbus and documents from the Apollo Missions, such as the Apollo 11 moon landing document from the National Archive Museum’s collection in Washington, DC.  In addition to these unpublished pieces, the exhibition incorporates artistic replicas of objects from the NASA collection and from the pilot, Buzz Aldrin, who was a member of the first trip to the Moon in 1969.
