  • The city council is promoting the Spanish capital’s range of specialised goods and services for the MICE segment in partnership with 24 companies from Madrid. Over 500 professional meetings will be held in total.
  • The Madrid stand has been built according to sustainability and environmental criteria with a policy of reducing, reusing and recycling the materials and processes employed.
  • The carbon footprint generated by Madrid’s participation in the fair was calculated and measures will be taken to offset it and contribute to environmental conservation.
  • Madrid Convention Bureau took advantage of its attendance of the fair to organise a networking event with 200 clients of the Hilton International hotel chain.

This week, the city council is raising awareness of Madrid’s exceptional range of MICE tourism offerings by taking part in IBTM World, which comes to a close today in Barcelona. Its presence—via Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB)—at this important international MICE industry event is providing it with an opportunity to showcase the specialised goods and services that make the capital one of the segment’s preferred destinations.

To promote the city, it’s working in partnership with 24 companies from Madrid’s tourism sector, which are affiliated with MCB, including a range of hotels, corporate travel and events agencies and special venues. This great show of representation for Spain’s capital city was made possible by strong public-private partnership—an area in which the public body is leading the way—allowing both sides to present a more complete picture of Madrid, share their latest news, make new contacts and maximise business opportunities. Over 500 meetings will be held over the course of the fair.

Commitment to sustainability

Madrid has its own space at the event: a stand which reflects the city council’s commitment to sustainability, designed and built according to environmental friendliness criteria with a policy of reducing, reusing and recycling both the materials and the processes employed. The same guidelines are used in the other promotional activities carried out by MCB as well as in its action plan, which prioritises sustainability and legacy as two of its strategic pillars.

For the first time at the fair, the carbon footprint generated by Madrid’s presence was calculated and actions will be taken to offset it in partnership with a range of companies and organisations from the forest, environment and natural heritage preservation sector. The aim is to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions produced in association with carrying out this promotional activity in order to contribute to environmental conservation.

Networking event with Hilton International

IBTM World is a key event in Madrid’s promotional agenda. To bolster the impact of its attendance at the fair, MCB partnered with Hilton International to organise a networking event for over 200 of the hotel chain’s international clients who had travelled to attend the forum. It was held last Tuesday at the Hotel Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona and featured the participation of the Museo Chicote cocktail bar./
