Espacio Larra - Ephimera

Larra, 14 is a unique building, with many lives. It was built in 1909 to house the editorial and printing press of the weekly Nuevo Mundo. In the 20s and 30s of the 20th century it housed two of the most important newspapers in the history of journalism in Spain -El Sol and La Voz-, founded by Nicolás María de Urgoiti and inspired by José Ortega y Gasset. For the next 30 years it would be the headquarters of the movement’s press, until the last of those newspapers, Marca, moved to another location in the 1960s.

Some of the most relevant journalists and intellectuals in Spain have written in the pages printed in Larra, from Perojo to Miguel Angel Aguilar, including Mariano de Cavia, Ramiro de Maeztu, Ortega y Gasset, Ramón J. Sender, Rafael Sanchez Mazas, or Serrano Anguita. From its presses emerged the article that precipitated the arrival of the Republic and the cover that certified the fall of Madrid.
