Veranos de la Villa turns Madrid into a huge festival

Over the course of the summer, long-standing Madrid festival Veranos de la Villa turns the Spanish capital into the ideal setting for concerts, theatre plays, circus events, magic shows and film nights.

The programme, presented in mid-June by Madrid Mayor Manuela Carmena, has a strong inclusive nature and, therefore, more than 80% of the activities will be free of charge. Decentralization has also been a key aspect of the festival since 2016, and as a result activities are now programmed in all of Madrid’s 21 districts, instead of being limited to the most iconic locations in the historical centre of the city.

Puccini’s classic opera Madama Butterfly has kicked off this year’s edition. Last Friday, June 30th, Veranos de la Villa joined forces with Madrid’s Teatro Real, during the opera house’s traditional Opera Week, to celebrate opera in the whole of the region by live streaming the production of Madama Butterfly on large screens in all 21 districts.
