In April MCB provided support to a dozen national and international meetings, most notably:
The 24th International Congress of Optometry, Contact Lenses and Ophthalmic Optics (OPTOM): MCB organised a welcome reception in the Royal Hall at Casa de la Panadería in Plaza Mayor.
Technical inspection visits were also conducted in association with congresses to be held in the city in 2017: the EAO Congress 2017, the ERA-EDTA Congress 2017 and the World Controllers’ Cup 2017. During the visits, international event organisers and their representatives were able to familiarise themselves with the city’s hotels, special venues and other infrastructure.
Bids and congresses won
In mid-April MCB made a presentation on behalf of the city of Madrid and held a reception for the Executive Committee of IAOMS, the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, in the Vaulted Hall at Casa de la Panadería, as part of its bid for a congress organised by the association. It also assisted during the inspection visit by the organisers of an electrical sector congress and held a PCO press conference for its bid for an engineering sector congress in 2019. The city chosen to host the latter congress will be announced after the summer, selected from the two finalists: Glasgow and Madrid.
In addition to these bids currently underway, four other bids have also been launched for congresses with 500 to 8,000 delegates to be held from 2019 to 2025.
As regards congresses that have been secured for Madrid, last month saw two confirmations. One of these was for a leading medical conference with over 18,000 delegates.
