Setsubun, “separation of seasons”, is the festival celebrated in Japan to mark the end of winter in the ancient Japanese lunisolar calendar.
The meal will be accompanied by a special ritual to shed all the evils of the previous year and keep demons away in the New Year. During this ritual, known as mamemak, seeds are symbolically scattered to purify the houses and ward off evil spirits: “Away demons, and may good luck enter!”. Enjoy it next May 12th at the Hesperia Madrid*****.
