Activity in January

During this past month, the Madrid Destino Tourism Department, through MCB, provided logistical, media and institutional support for congresses, conferences and meetings on different topics in a range of fields both at home and abroad, including the International Marketing Trends Conference and Inner Peace Day.

In advance of the FDI World Congress in Madrid in 2017, MCB promoted Destination Madrid at the AEEDC international meeting, supplying printed promotional material for the stand devoted to the Spanish capital in the city of Dubai. The FDI Congress attracts some 12,000 international delegates annually.

Destination Madrid was also promoted at the IMCAS World Congress held this year in Paris prior to the ESAG World Congress in Madrid in 2017. The ESAG World Congress brings together close to 600 international delegates every year.

City of Madrid promotional material was also on hand at the internal meeting of the HL7 organisation, which works with healthcare information systems, in the city of San Antonio (USA). The HL7 annual conference is to be held in Madrid in May and around 1,200 people are expected to attend.

In terms of technical visits for congresses currently at the organisational stage, in January MCB met with the congresses and logistics team from the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), whose congress is due to be held in Madrid in November 2017. This is one of the biggest and most important professional congresses to be held on European soil, with around 20,000 delegates attending every year. The organisers are expecting the 2017 event in Madrid to attract significantly higher numbers. The MCB also hosted a technical visit by senior figures from the European Asphalt Pavement Association, the EAPA, which included coordinating a series of professional meetings with the Madrid OPC association to assist the EAPA in choosing the official OPC for its congress, due to be held in Madrid in 2020 and expected to attract some 2,000 delegates.

To conclude with the congresses, five new bid processes were opened in January in addition to the last presentation of Madrid as finalist city for a major scientific congress in 2020, expected to attract 5,000 delegates.

As for the promotional activity of the Madrid Convention Bureau, it is worth noting the participation and collaboration in the program of two important events: the annual meeting of Helmsbriscoe Europe, for which MCB organized an evening at the tablao Casa Patas and guided tours to the historical City center, as well as providing them with information and a destination presentation during the working day included in the program, which took place at the Hilton Madrid Airport hotel. The other great encounter was the familiarization trip organized for agents member of the international association of DMCs ADMEI, where MCB also had an active part in the preparation of the program of activities and visits.
