Madrid, november, Science and Heritage together

The contributions of scientific research to the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage are now widely recognised. Today, any conservation centre operating at an international level is aware of the need to establish, support and develop teams of experts in scientific and technical fields to safeguard heritage.

This reality has led to the emergence of a discipline that is now professionally established in those countries committed to the protection of historical heritage: the Heritage Science.

11th Science and Art Congress

From 12 to 13 November, the Royal Collections Gallery in Madrid will host the 11th leading conference in this field, entitled “Science and Art. Sciences and Technologies Applied to Heritage Conservation”, an event that has become increasingly established over the years, since its first edition in 2006, as a forum for the exchange of knowledge between the experimental sciences, advanced technologies and the conservation of cultural heritage.

Since June 2006, a biennial series has been held to foster closer ties between these two sectors and build bridges between them, becoming a well-established forum for exchange within the framework of the IPCE’s National Research Plan for Conservation. In this edition, three events are highlighted in particular: the celebration of the IPCE’s 65th anniversary; the recent approval of the new text of the National Conservation Research Plan (PNIC); and the importance of the relationship with the Ibero-American region through the IPCE’s participation in the project ‘El Madrid Americano. Shared Heritage and Tourist Routes in the Community of Madrid, 16th–21st Centuries (AmerMad2-CM)’, reference (PHS-2024/PH-HUM-184), funded by the Directorate-General for Research and Technological Innovation of the Community of Madrid.
