Widening the Entrance. The New Gallery Scene in Madrid

From 9 March to 12 June, Floor 5 of the CentroCentro cultural space will host a new exhibition that brings together a series of works created to showcase the latest trends in today’s art galleries.

What are the new galleries that have recently opened in Madrid like? Where are they? Who are the young gallery owners? What training do these entrepreneurs have?  Which artists are on display? Who are their collectors?  After COVID, lockdown and Filomena, in times of e-commerce, fibre-optic communications and new international conflicts...  Why open a new art gallery in Madrid?

This exhibition seeks to raise awareness of the work of the new gallery owners who have opened their doors in the city in recent years, along with the work of their artists. The project is planned in three phases: an initial phase of interviews with the gallery owners, which can be heard as a podcast; a second phase, which is a physical tour of the spaces and a collective exhibition of the works by these artists; and a third phase of round tables that will take place during the exhibition, to reflect on and discuss the findings of the research.
