Visible City / City at Play

From 12 April to 25 August, the CentroCentro cultural centre invites the public to explore a fascinating exhibition under the name of Visible City / City at Play. Curated by Luca Carrubba and Eurídice Cabañes from ArsGames, this exhibition  offers a look at video games from their potential to reflect and transform the city.

The city is configured in different ways.  Not only through material intervention, but also by means of languages and the creation of symbolic worlds that inspire and model the city.  Different devices and technologies enhance this effect.  Our whole connection with reality is mediated technologically and if there is a single technology - and single language - that has become the reference of this interaction, it is undoubtedly the video game.

Nowadays, it is feasible to consider the video game as a workshop for the construction of citizenship, and as a language for communication that is able to generate a remote dialogue between the agents that inhabit the urban, physical and virtual spaces.  The interactive nature of digital games and the representation of the city in them stimulate the growth of a joint intelligence that recursively imagines and writes the present and future of urban spaces in a lively way.

This exhibition suggests taking a look at video games from their ability to think and transform the city, offering a journey through different actions, projects and experiments that show how the urban area is expressed and built through this medium.
