On 25 April, the Red Hall (Sala Roja) at Teatros del Canal will host the world première of a new show by the dance company featuring Sara Calero, one of today’s leading references on the revamping of Spanish dance and flamenco. This flamenco and modern dance production reflects on the nature of change and transformation.
It is based on Heraclitus' conceptions that everything is constantly moving and changing, linking this to the idea of death as a point of transition to another mode of spiritual or carnal existence, depending on each person's cultural beliefs.
Furthermore, the theory of life is considered as a continuous cycle of transformation and rebirth, with each experience and state of consciousness helping to define who we are and where we are going. This is coupled with the importance of imagination and the willingness to explore new paths and possibilities, even beyond what we consider earthly, seeking a metamorphosis that leads to unexpected and never-ending destinations.
The production includes the participation of the flamenco singers Sergio "El Colorao" and José Guerrero "El Tremendo", the bass player Juanfe Pérez and the flamenco guitarist Pablo Martín Caminero, who provide the music to Calero's stage movements.
Born in Madrid in 1983, Sara Calero is a dancer who trained at the Dance Conservatory in the Spanish capital. She made her debut as a soloist at the age of 17 through José Granero at the Jerez Festival with La Noche, as part of the performance of A Mi Manera. A year later, she joined the Workshop of the Andalusian Dance Company and shortly afterwards, she started to work as a soloist and lead dancer in groups like that of Antonio Márquez. In 2006, she joined the Spanish National Ballet, where she remained for four years. In 2010, she embarked on a personal project called Zona Cero. Since then, she has created other productions, such as Fandango Avenue, El Mirar de la Maja, Petisa Loca or La Finitud.
