One of the most successful jazz and pop performers, the English singer and pianist Jamie Cullum, performs at the Alma Festival Madrid where he perform his greatest hits. On 12 June 12 2024 in Enrique Tierno Galván Park.
Jamie Cullum’s career has been full of successes: one Grammy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, three Brit Awards and numerous international award nominations and various remarkable albums, having sold 13 million copies worldwide.
The British jazz artist started playing at local pubs and hotels when he was seventeen. When he was at the university, where he studied film and English literature, he started composing scores for his short films and playing with his band Jamie Cullum Trio.
His first two records, Heard it all before (1999) and Pointless Nostalgic (2002), which stirred interest from major labels and catapulted him into stardom. In 2003 he released his breakthrough third full-length, Twentysomething. The album charted all over the world, sold millions of copies, and made him the fastest-selling British jazz artist in history. Catching Tales (2005), The Pursuit (2009), Momentum (2013) and Interlude (2014) followed.
Although primarily a jazz musician, Cullum performs in a wide range of styles and is generally regarded as a “crossover” performing covers by musicians such as artist with his musical roots firmly based in jazz. Cullum draws his inspiration from many different musicians and listens to an eclectic mix of music White Stripes, Kanye West, Pussycat Dolls, Elton John, Radiohead o Coldplay. His most famous cover is Rihanna’s Don´t Stop the Music. He has also composed scores for several films including Bridget Jones’s Diary and in 2009, Cullum was nominated along with Clint Eastwood for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for their composition Gran Torino.
