Premises belonging to the Barcelona chain of bookshops in the centre of Madrid, opened in September 2012. Located in a former nineteenth century stately home, La Central de Callao occupies 1,200 m2 and contains a collection of over 70,000 books specialising in philosophy, history, social sciences and literature.
The three floors of the building surround a central atrium, the old coach yard, where a tall cypress stands. In the building you can also find a café-restaurant (El Bistró, on the ground floor, managed by the founders of two Barcelona businesses, Xocoa and Demasié) and a cocktail bar (El Garito, on the first floor, originally a tobacco storeroom) and a wide range of cultural activities are also held there.
