Sunday Traditions
Sundays in Madrid mean one thing and one thing only: the Rastro. This is a popular flea market which, alongside the antique shops, bars and other shops in the area, welcomes many others to set up temporary stalls and sell all manner of products. Bargains, second hand and vintage clothing, antiques, traditionally-crafted products, books, records… almost anything can be found in this bazaar.
Close to the Rastro, the arcades of the Plaza Mayor and its surroundings are the ideal spot to pick up those unusual yet absolutely necessary souvenirs: ornamental combs, castanets, fans, cloaks… This is an area in which, as well as shopping, you can take a stroll and soak up the festive atmosphere. To end the afternoon and kick-start the evening, don’t forget to enjoy a cold beer and some tapas.
