In April, the streets of Madrid will host the Madrid Popular Marathon (known as Mapoma by runners), one of the most important sporting events that is held in Spain.
The event, classified as a Gold Label Race by the International Athletics Federation, which is the highest level of excellence, is on the same scale as such well known races as those in New York, London or Berlin. It also forms part of the Rock ‘n' Roll Marathon Series, the world’s biggest running circuit, and there will be live music performances on over 20 stages, a finish line festival, a parallel 10 km race and a half-marathon, turning Madrid into a sporting celebration.
The route has changed for the 2018 edition, modifying the departure point (Paseo de la Castellana, on the corner of Calle Ortega and Calle Gasset for the Marathon and Half Marathon, and between the Gregorio Marañón and Emilio Castelar squares for the 10 Km race) and the finishing line, although it still allows you to enjoy one of the most attractive routes on the international calendar, as leaving from Paseo de la Castellana, allows you to take in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the Puerta del Sol, the Royal Palace, Casa de Campo, Madrid Río and the Prado Museum, which is located alongside the finishing line on the Paseo del Prado. The warmth of the enthusiastic, sport-loving Madrid crowd is the icing on the race's cake.
