The Canadian company Cirque du Soleil is back in Madrid with LUZIA , which can be seen in the Big Tent at the Puerta del Ángel Stage located in the Casa de Campo Fair site. An imaginary Mexico that takes the public to a place between dreams and reality in a unique event that integrates water as an artistic element for the first time inside a big tent production.
Spectacular acrobatics and visual surprises characterise the company’s productions, but on this occasion, LUZIA, which is the merger of the words “luz” (light) and “lluvia” (rain), uses water as a source of inspiration. A swimming pool with 3,500 litres of water located under the stage creates a water curtain that offers a special magic to the different circus disciplines. Furthermore, this show incorporates a traditional Chinese circus discipline, the combination of hoop diving and two giant treadmills to generate speed.
The performance is written and directed by the Swiss director, Daniele Finzi Pasca, with the collaboration of Brigitte Poupart , which seeks to take spectators to an imaginary world like in a living dream, where light quenches the spirit and rain soothes the soul. Through the costumes, acrobatics, music or props, the audience is immersed in the culture, history and mythology of Mexico, enjoying a fantasy vision of reality.
LUZIA is the 38th original Cirque du Soleil production and it premiered in Montreal in 2016, but has incorporated changes over the years to keep it fresh and animated. The Cirque du Soleil company was created in 1984 by 20 street artists. It currently has 4,000 employees with more than 1,300 artists from over 60 countries. It has visited six continents, 60 countries and more than 450 cities, exciting more than 200 million spectators.
Originally composed of 20 street performers in 1984, Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group completely reinvented circus arts and went on to become a world leader in live entertainment. Established in Montreal, the Canadian troupe has brought wonder and delight to over 200 million spectators with productions presented in 450 cities in 60 countries.
