This year, the Madrid Half Marathon, a World Athletics Label Road Race which is included in the official calendar of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), will be held on 7 April. It will be introducing a new route that will take runners through iconic avenues and squares such as Paseo de la Castellana, Plaza de Castilla, and Gran Vía, and past landmarks like Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Puerta de Alcalá gate and Cibeles Fountain.
Although the starting line (Paseo de la Castellana) and finish line (Paseo de Recoletos) will be the same as usual, the route will be flatter than in previous years and will end along gentle downhill slopes in the most touristic part of Madrid.
The 2023 edition which was held on 26 March, was won by Kenyan runner Hillary Kipkoech (59:56) and Ethiopian athlete Zewditu Aderaw Gelaw (1:07:38). The race's all-time records are held in the men’s category by Ronald Kiprotich who clocked 59:38 in 2021 and, in the women's category, by Winfridah Moraa who finished in 1:07:22 in 2022.
In addition to the Half Marathon, a parallel Carrera ProFuturo race is held with a much shorter distance of just 5.8K.
