Madrid has its own open-air summer festival. It is the DCODE Festival which is held in September. It is a perfect month to enjoy the good weather and bid farewell to the summer season, accompanied by eighteen hours of good music from the morning onwards (like in European festivals) and it is aimed at families. In 2021, the festival will hold its tenth edition on 10 and 11 September in which artists of the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age, Vetusta Morla, The Hives, Sidonie and Fuel Fandango have already confirmed.
The 2019 edition was attended by 20,000 people who enjoyed performances by groups like Two Door Cinema Club, Amaral, The Cardigans, Kaiser Chiefs and Tom Odell. In 2021, the festival will celebrate its tenth anniversary at the Cantarranas Complex on the Madrid Complutense University Campus (behind the Faculty of Information Sciences) which will host the best on the national and international indie rock scene.
Queens Of The Stone Age, one of the most significant and influential bands in the history of contemporary rock, will head the line-up on 10 September. The group from California led by the charismatic Josh Home will review its extensive career, which kicked off at the end of the 1990s and has released hits like No One Knows, Go With The Flow or The Way You Used To Do.
Confirmed artists on 11 September include Vetusta Morla, which will perform a full show, in which the band will review the greatest hits of its career. The concert will be the group’s stage farewell until further notice.
Other artists who have already confirmed their presence at the tenth anniversary are the
psychedelic and alternative pop-rock group from Barcelona, Sidonie, the fusion of Fuel Fandango, the German folk/rock group, Milky Chance, the post-punk band, Belako, the Swedish rock group, Mando Diao, the garage rock band from Sweden, The Hives, the Spanish folk singer, St. Woods, and the Mexican alternative rock group, Café Tacvba, among others.
With this artistic quality, DCODE is a not to be missed event in Madrid. The festival, which is held in one of the city’s biggest and best communicated green spaces, the campus of the Complutense University, includes proposals for all ages (children under the age of 10 have free entry to the festival and their very own Dcode Kids corner, where they can enjoy themselves with games, story-telling and face painting), because DCODE is an all-day music festival (from Midday to 6am, whereby you can leave and come back until 5pm) with food, fashion, sport and tendencies at an incredible price.
