Château Margaux/La Viejecita is a double bill of one-act zarzuela operettas adapted and directed by Lluis Pasqual. A fun session featuring the Teatro de la Zarzuela choir and the Comunidad de Madrid Orchestra.
In La Viejecita the action takes place in Spain at the end of 1812, during the War of Independence against the army of Napoleon Bonaparte. In Madrid, a huge party is being held to which Carlos has not been invited. But he intends to gate crash so that he can woo Luisa, of whom he is hopelessly enamoured. So he disguises himself as Doña Teresa de Argelez y Vargas, an old lady who is on the guest list.
Château Margaux tells the story of how Angelita and Manuel invite their aristocratic aunt and uncle to their house with the intention of getting into their good books so as they might secure a good inheritance. But Angelita shocks the elderly couple with her dancing and singing after she drinks too much French wine.
