Saint George’s Church brings British Christmas tradition to the Spanish capital for a day. The festive essence of Britain will be felt on Saturday, 13 December at the British Christmas Fair, which will be held on their parish premises on the corner of Hermosilla and Núñez de Balboa streets, in the Barrio de Salamanca neighbourhood.
With around 30 stalls set up inside the church premises, the market will include products that are usually found at an English Christmas Market, such as Christmas decorations, handicrafts, chocolates and English food traditionally eaten at this time of the year.
You can also try mulled wine, or hot spiced wine, a wonderful way to warm up. This can be accompanied by a turkey sandwich and some home-made mince pies and cakes, which are so characteristic of British baking. These irresistible Christmas baked goods tend to sell out within a few hours, so it's a good idea to arrive early.
As well as perusing the market stalls, you can take part in the fun tombola, held under a 200-year-old fig tree, for a chance to win wonderful prizes. The tree, which bears fruit every year, stands as a symbol of strength, perseverance, and resilience. During the fair, you are also invited to write a wish and hang it from one of its branches.
