From December, the Círculo de Bellas Artes is holding an exhibition devoted to the global phenomenon Banksy whose identity still remains a secret. The universe created by this iconoclastic artist, who has challenged the game rules of contemporary art, is represented by 50 pieces in this exhibition.
The British urban art artist has known how to unite poetry, exposing politics and irony with powerful communication skills and is a clear example of an artist as a transforming element of society. Banksy is considered to be one of the leading representatives of contemporary Street Art . His works, which are often satirical, address universal themes, such as politics, culture or ethics. The aura of mystery that arises whenever Banksy is mentioned has turned him into a legendary figure of our times.
The exhibition is designed to be an immersion in the Banksy universe with an unprecedented journey through more than 50 original works on loan from international private collectors. A multimedia installation especially created for the exhibition welcomes visitors, unveiling clues about the artist and highlighting his best known works and framing his extraordinary career.
A selection of unique works created using different techniques, such as oil or acrylic on canvas, spray on canvas, limited edition screen prints, stencils on metal or concrete, painted polymer or varnished bronze sculptures, installations, videos and photographs.
His best known works include the original serigraphy of the Girl with Balloon series. This is an opportunity to enjoy similar pieces to the one that was self-destructed by the artist himself in an unprecedented auction at Sotheby’s, the London auction house, where the canvas that had been auctioned shred itself as it went through a shredder that had been installed at the bottom of the frame.
