Exhibitions

A retrospective exhibition of one of the great masters of 20th-century art and one of the most unique painters of his time (Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. 19 Feb-26 May).

Study of prints and books by Piranesi as well as works by other authors who influenced the Venetian artist's work (National Library - Sala Recoletos. 25 Apr-15 Sept).

Concerts

The Welsh bass-baritone, one of the greatest Wagnerian voices, makes his debut at the Teatro Real in a concert with works by Wagner, Boito and Weill (Teatro Real. 22 January).

The incredible singer, arranger, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist is bringing his multimedia show to the Spanish capital (La Riviera. 31 January).

The successful Irish rock band will give a concert to promote Wilderness, their first album in seven years (La Riviera. 14 February).

The duo from Bristol are on a European tour to commemorate the 21st anniversary of their legendary album Mezzanine (Palacio Vistalegre Arena. 17 February).

The American hip hop and alternative rock duo will visit Spain as a part of their The Bandito Tour (WiZink Center. 16 March).

Florence Welch and her band will perform songs from High As Hope, their new stripped-down album (WiZink Center. 21 March).

The singer will delight fans with her unique combination of French music and gypsy jazz (WiZink Center. 1 April).

After their incredible 2018 tour, the legendary trash metal band return with their WorldWired Tour (Valdebebas - IFEMA. 3 May).

The English superstar continues to promote his latest album Divide (Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. 11 June).

One of the most acclaimed and revered artists of all times is bidding his fans a final farewell with his mega Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour (WiZink Center. 26 June).

The Cure, The National, The 1975, Vampire Weekend, Vetusta Morla, Bon Iver, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Snuts... The star festival of 2019! (Espacio Mad Cool. 11-13 July). 

The famous flamenco guitarist will perform El amor brujo, Canciones y danzas de Dulcinea and Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez (Teatro de la Zarzuela. 12 July).

Plácido Domingo leads a cast in this concert version of Giuseppe Verdi's opera (Teatro Real. 14, 17 and 20 July).

The British trio have chosen Madrid for their only Spanish concert on their Simulation Theory World Tour (Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. 26 July).

Sports

Los Colchoneros face their eternal rival in the second derby of the season (Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. 10 February).

The Real Madrid side will try to beat its eternal rival in the most awaited and mass media match in the regular league (Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. 2 March).

Fairs and other events

The most important cultural-culinary event of the year celebrates its tenth edition (23 Jan-10 Feb).

Thousands flock to the city to attend the processions and to enjoy the atmosphere created by the trumpets, drums and the hundreds of religious worshippers' bright and colourful attire (14-21 Apr).

Madrid will hold festivities in honour of its patron saint, with music, shows and an endless range of activities for all (10-15 May, to be confirmed).
