This restaurant, specialising in high quality seasonal cuisine, is the latest addition to the great culinary offer available on Calle Ponzano, in the traditional district of Chamberí. Candeli offers a carefully crafted menu that places the emphasis on respecting the flavour of the ingredients.
Brothers Alberto and Francisco Rivera, both of whom are sommeliers, head up this spacious restaurant, which is simple, elegant and inviting. It is bright and airy and is decorated with posters that hark back to the blackboards found in traditional neighbourhood markets and grocery stores. Candeli is divided into three areas: a terrace by the entrance with high tables, another more informal area with low tables, ideal for tapas, and the dining room.
The menu features dishes such as tuna belly served on tomato puree, flame grilled octopus with aioli, fried eggs with black truffle, the chef's special home-made fritters with cane honey, hake with tartare sauce, fresh butifarra sausage with beans, and chunks of sirloin steak stir fried with golden garlic, among others. There are also a wide variety of wines on offer.
