La Gatoteca is the first cat bar in Spain, somewhere you can enjoy a drink (non-alcoholic) along with a spot of feline company. Unlike the popular oriental cat cafés, geared towards the enjoyment of people, this establishment fulfils a social function for homeless cats.
La Gatoteca is the headquarters for the charity organisation ABRIGA (Charity Association for Cat Rescue and Adoption). Inspired by the cafés that sprung up in 1998 in Taiwan, it offers you the chance to spend some time in the company of several cats that are being looked after in cat shelters and which can be adopted, if the customer so wishes.
The space is spread over two floors, with large lounge areas where you can relax while cats wander around, play and rest. The café offers free Wi-Fi, a library and a shop, and over the course of the year it runs courses and conferences about caring for cats. Because space is limited, they accept bookings through their official website.
