Plaza de España Gardens

Due to a major refurbishment of the square which is expected to last till February 2021, both the gardens and the square may be partly closed off to the public.

Plaza de España in Sol/Gran Vía is one of the most important squares in Madrid for several reasons: it is located in the city centre, some of the most commercial and tourist streets begin there, and because its gardens are a beautiful meeting spot.

Its green area, with 2.7 hectares, houses a well-known monument dedicated to Cervantes and a water fountain with a pond, as well as seasonal areas and gardens surrounded by trees. Two of the most emblematic buildings in Madrid are located here: Torre Madrid and Edificio España. Busy streets such as Gran Vía, Princesa, and Cuesta de San Vicente begin there. It‘s quite common to find tourist groups of all nationalities in this plaza throughout the year.
