Diavolo has redefined dance, theater and emotions under the leadership of the French-born choreographer Jacques Heim who, among many other distinctions, was chosen to choreograph the highly successful production KÀ for the Cirque du Soleil. This company explores the ways in which individuals interact with their surroundings (sometimes hilarious and other times terrifying) and takes motion and risk to the most surreal extreme, creating Dadaist scenes where imagination runs rampant. Diavolo is not modern dance, jazz or ballet. It is a combination of gymnastics, acrobatics, theater and circus. It is abstract, with no storyline; it allows the story to take shape in the imagination of the spectators who take in their unique performance with slack-jawed awe and embark on an oneiric journey full of beauty and startling surprises. The company, known for its dramatic use of high-risk pieces, consists of dancers, gymnasts and actors who work together to make magic under Heim’s expert baton.
