Matadero Madrid will be developed on the premises of the old municipal abattoir, designed in 1910 by municipal architect Luis Bellido.
The space to be occupied by the project covers the area of the old municipal supply warehouse in the south-eastern part of the grounds, with a total of ten buildings, and, in the northwest, others, including the former stables (today the headquarters of the National Dance Company and the Spanish National Ballet) and the old potato warehouse (greenhouse).
All together, over 85,000 m² of space will be devoted to new cultural facilities, in which the Matadero Madrid project will be developed.
The original distribution of the warehouses, designed to facilitate interconnection between the various industrial processes, will be a positive factor in the process of continuous exchange between spaces, disciplines, institutions, professionals and visitors.
