While the space is being renovated, Matadero Madrid will house activities as a taster for what will be Madrid's keynote centre for contemporary creation.

2006
From the last quarter of 2006, Matadero Madrid will offer specially programmed one-off Intermediæ and theatre events.

In addition, it will accommodate several of the city's major cultural initiatives: Cultura Urbana Festival, PhotoEspaña, Veranos de la Villa and la Noche Blanca.

2007 - 2008
The plastic arts (ARCO Collection Contemporary Art Centre), literature (Casa del Lector) and the programme of art installations will commence their projects and carry out activities in the centre's open spaces. During this phase, the Matadero Madrid information point will also open.

2009 - 2010
Inauguration and normal programming of the centres for architecture, design, cinema and documentaries, stage arts, Intermediae, as well as the support programme for creation and the restaurant.

2010 - 2011
Calle Matadero will inaugurate the cultural entertainment area: live music venues, café theatre, bookshops, music, video, art and design stores.
