IESE’s MBA also ranks no. 1 worldwide

Madrid Emprende   -   19 de octubre de 2009

IESE’s Madrid-based programme tops the MBA ranking recently released by the prestigious British weekly "The Economist." Last month, IE’s MBA earned the same position, proving that Spanish business schools are among the top MBAs worldwide.

In recent years Spanish business schools have routinely appeared among the top institutions in global rankings. Yet it appears that these schools are no longer content to be among the top ten, and in 2009 have jumped to the head of their respective categories.

The latest recognition for a Spanish business school came from The Economist. According to the recently released ranking, the MBA offered by the University of Navarra’s IESE business school is considered the best in the world, even ahead of prestigious and well-known institutions such as Harvard, Stanford and the London Business School.
IESE’s leadership position is partly based on the performance of the MBA programme’s careers office, as 98% of graduates find employment within three months of finishing the programme.

The Economist’s report ranks the one hundred best MBA programmes in the world. Three other Spanish business schools, all with offices in Madrid, also feature in the ranking.

The IE Business School is ranked 16th, while Esade stands at number 29. Eada’s MBA programme comes in further down the list, at number 90.
Among the top ten MBAs, the first two slots went to European schools: IESE and the runner-up, the Swiss business school IMD. Nevertheless, the leadership of US schools remains uncontested, as well-known institutions such as Berkeley, Harvard, Dartmouth, Stanford or Wharton continue to dominate the top slots. When looking at the top ten European schools, the UK boasts the most institutions on the list (five), although the majority of them are ranked behind IESE and IE Business School. The ranking is based on surveys of over 19,000 current MBA students and alumni, as well as data provided by the institutions themselves and the results of earlier rankings by The Economist. Four factors consistently emerge as key elements in the ranking: opening of new career opportunities, personal development and educational experience, increased salaries and the potential to network.
