The city of Madrid has been chosen to host the World Rugby Sevens Series Grand Final for the coming three years. The Civitas Metropolitano Stadium will host the first Grand Final, scheduled for 31 May to 2 June 2024.
From the 2023-2024 season, Madrid will be the venue for the Grand Final of the revamped World Rugby Sevens Series. The city will welcome the finest Sevens players on the planet and fans from around the world for a three-day festival of breath-taking competition on the field, supported by a world class entertainment offering.
Sevens World Series will feature seven festival style events, in seven iconic global destinations, across seven months, showcasing the best twelve men’s and twelve women’s teams. The season will kick-off in December 2023 and the full line-up of hosts will be revealed in June.
The Grand Final is a new concept for a Series that introduces the concept of jeopardy, through which every match counts in the race to be crowned Series champions. This competition will see the top eight ranked teams after six rounds competing to be crowned Series champions. The teams ranked ninth to twelfth will join the top four ranked teams from the Challenger Series in play-offs, which will see four teams secure their places in the next edition of the Series.
The four unsuccessful teams will go into regional competitions to qualify for the next Challenger Series, which comprises of twelve men’s and twelve women’s teams competing in the second level of international rugby sevens.
