The Union Cup 2017, the most important European competition for gay rugby teams, will be taking place in Madrid in the spring of 2017, organised by the team Madrid Titanes C.R.. Over the course of three days, hundreds of players and fans from all around Europe will be turning our city into the European capital of rugby.
Los Titanes, the first inclusive gay rugby team in Spain, has presented a solid sporting and social project, which aims to spread the sport of rugby in the country and defend the visibility of the LGTB collective in the world of sport.
The organisers already have extensive backing from public and private institutions, including Madrid's Department of Sport, the Rugby Federation, AEGAL, FELGBT, as well as the other LGTB teams in Madrid and other social organisations.
They have also reached an agreement with Complutense University to use its facilities to host the Union Cup 2017, including the National Rugby Stadium, which can seat over 12,000 spectators.
2017 will be remembered in the city of Madrid for its bid to include the LGTB collective, thanks to World Pride Madrid, the biggest global event of its kind, and the latest edition of this sporting championship, last staged in the city of Brussels in 2015.
