The Prado Museum is hanging more paintings from the works donated by businessman Plácido Arango. Five are currently being exhibited, but museum goers will soon have the chance to see four more depicting Immaculate Conceptions: two by Francisco de Zurbarán, one by Mateo Cerezo and the fourth one by Juan de Valdés Leal.
In June 2015, Mexican businessman Plácido Arango Arias donated 25 works to the Museum while holding lifetime usufruct. The donation, which added significant value to the Museum’s holdings, includes works by Pedro de Campaña, Luis de Morales, Eugenio Cajés, Luis Tristán, Francisco de Zurbarán, Alejandro de Loarte, Antonio del Castillo, Juan de Valdés Leal, Francisco de Herrera el Mozo, Mateo Cerezo, Corrado Giaquinto and Francisco de Goya, among other artists.
Four painters whose works form part of the donation – Felipe Pablo de San Leocadio, Pedro de Campaña, Francisco Barrera and Francisco López Caro – had never been on display at the Prado Museum. All the works will be shown in small groups in temporary exhibitions.
