In this Ibermúsica 16/17 Foundation concert, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 and his Fifth Symphony, under the masterful direction of Jonathan Nott, with Nelson Goerner on the piano.
The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, which has 112 musicians, was founded in 1918 by Ernest Ansermet (director until 1967). The reputation of this orchestra is thanks to its historic repertoire and the magnificent performance of 20th century themes from France and Russia as well as over one hundred recordings which have made them known worldwide.
The maestro, Jonathan Nott, is the current musical and artistic director of this ensemble whose principal guest conductor is the Japanese maestro, Kazuki Yamada. The OSR has given concerts throughout the world, particularly in Genoa (the Grand Théâtre of Geneva) and Lausanne.
Thanks to the directors who have led the orchestra, the OSR has been a great precursor of the history of music as well as new contemporary composers. They have been awarded on numerous occasions in Genoa for their exquisite performance of pieces by Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger, Frank Martin, Benjamin Britten, Heinz Holliger, Peter Eötvös, James MacMillan, Pascal Dusapin, Michael Jarrell and Richard Dubugnon.
