If we talk about Nick Lowe and the Straitjackets separately, the compliments come thick and fast. And with good reason, as Nick Lowe, producer of Elvis Costello's early records and the writer of most of What's So Funny About Peace, Love And Understanding and Cruel To Be Kind, is considered to be one of the greatest exponents of pub rock.
Musician, producer, and songwriter, Nick Lowe (Walton-on-Thames, UK, 1949) is a leading figure in the genres of British pub rock, power pop and new wave. Lowe can play guitar, bass, piano, and the harmonica. The Straitjackets, in turn, are leading lights in the surf rock genre. They have released no fewer than thirteen studio albums since they formed in 1988 in Nashville.
But how about together? Compliments come just as thick and fast. This union took shape following the live presentation of Lowe's Christmas album, Quality Street. A Seasonal Selection For All Family in 2014, where the British musician was backed by the Straitjackets. This tour was immortalised in The Quality Holiday Revue (2015), and following on from all the applause they received and the great time they were having, they are still playing together today.
