Miguel Poveda

The flamenco singer will be performing at the Teatro Lope de Vega on 13 May as part of the Banco Mediolanum Summum Concert Series. In this concert, he embarks on a new journey alongside the guitarist, Jesús Guerrero to bring to life the texts from Poema del cante Jondo by Federico García Lorca.

Miguel Poveda became interested in flamenco at an early age and spent his youth listening to albums by maestros, such as La Niña de los Peines, Juan Varea, Rafael Farina or Camarón de la Isla, who soon became his influences. He appeared on stage for the first time at the age of 15, but it was not until 1995 when he released his first flamenco album, Viento.

Since that first album, his career has developed until becoming one of the most renowned flamenco singers. He has won numerous awards, including various Latin Grammy nominations, and he has sold millions of albums. His most noteworthy collaborations are with Enrique Morente, Tomatito, Mariza, Pasión Vega, Chavela Vargas, María Dolores Pradera, Ana Belén, Víctor Manuel, Pedro Guerra, Joaquín Sabina or Joan Manuel Serrat.

Now, Miguel Poveda has created one of the best flamenco albums of recent years alongside Jesús Guerrero, which reveals a more flamenco singer side of the musician, performing only texts by his much admired Federico García Lorca. This album presents a rich inheritance of the jondo song and Lorca’s profound poetry, an intimate encounter with flamenco roots and the love that each of the performers has put into this project.

It is a fusion of Lorca’s poetry and flamenco, with the expressiveness of the vocals and guitar of the two artists, which leads to a unique experience in which the emotional intensity of the jondo song is linked to Lorca’s reflections on the soul of flamenco.
