In 2016, Feria de Madrid is once again hosting Madrid Horse Week, the biggest event of its kind held in Spain, which seeks to bridge the gap between the general public and the world of horses.
Last season, the World Show Jumping Cup took place once again in Madrid. The Longines World Cup is the most important riding competition in the world, and from the very beginning it has drawn the biggest names in the world of international horse riding, from Hugo Simon to John Whitaker, Rodrigo Pessoa and Ludger Beerbaum. Madrid welcomed 8 of the world's top 10 riders, including the world number 1 Scott Brash, the reigning Olympic champion Steve Guerdat, the entire German team as well as the Spanish team.
Last season also incorporated a further two world events in two different fields: The FEI World Cup Vaulting, an equestrian discipline that is very close to rhythmic gymnastics, which never fails to impress with its spectacular routines and artistry (and which featured the participation of the Swiss rider Simone Jäiser, currently ranked number 1 in the FEI ranking) and the FEI World Cup Driving, featuring the presence of the top ranked rider in the world in this category, the Australian Boyd Exell.
This major equestrian event also includes the Salón del Caballo, a Horse Show covering an area of 16,000 m2, offering a programme of shows and spectacles combined with themed events organised throughout.
