American singer Macy Gray will fill Teatro Nuevo Apolo with her mysterious, kind of funny, voice, producing jazz, hip-hop and R&B sounds. In her new album, Stripped, she includes remakes of several of her songs, versions of two songs by other artists and three all-new recordings.
In Stripped, Macy Gray (Ohio, USA, 1967) creates a mix of soul, hip-hop, R&B, funk and rock music that transcends rigidly defined styles and genres. The album opens with an amazing song, Annabelle, followed by a newly recorded version of Gray’s iconic I Try. Striking a nice balance between the singer and the Sweet Baby band, it has received positive reviews.
Gray won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for I Try, which was also nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Her debut album, On How Life Is, sold more than 7 million copies worldwide, thanks in part to the artist’s distinctive, unique, singing voice. Just listen to some of her most famous songs – Relating to a Psychopath, Sexual Revolution, Sweet Baby –, and you’ll understand why.
